Oregon Unveils 2008 Football Signing Class
Following their run at the top ranking in college football, which ended in a 9-4 record and lopsided Brut Sun Bowl victory over South Florida, it’s not surprising that Oregon football players continue to make news this offseason.
The latest Ducks to receive recognition are departing seniors Dennis Dixon and Geoff Schwartz, with Dixon winning the Bill Hayward Amateur Athlete of the Year award and Schwartz participating in the East-West Shrine Game.
Dixon received his award Sunday, Jan. 27 at the 56th annual Oregon Sports Awards for his individual prowess and role in leading Oregon to a No. 2 national ranking before suffering a season-ending knee injury. The dual-threat quarterback beat out four other finalists including fellow Ducks Aaron Brooks (Basketball) and Galen Rupp (Track and Field).
Schwartz took part in the high-profile all-star game on Jan. 19 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, playing in front of several prominent scouts as he readies for the upcoming NFL draft in April. The 6-7 offensive tackle helped Oregon set single-game and single-season rushing marks in 2007.
The Ducks begin spring practice on April 2.
